Discovery Department hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Closed during lunch from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. Calendaring is done in the mornings only - OEX calendaring and other matters in the afternoon.
IN and OUT box for departments 610 and 612 is located outside of Discovery Department Office, Room 633.
NOTICES:

All discovery matters ("limited jurisdiction" and "unlimited jurisdiction") will be heard before the discovery commissioners. Odd numbered cases will be heard in Dept. 612 and even numbered cases will be heard in Dept. 610.

All discovery motions (including ex parte applications for temporary protective orders, writs of attachment and writs of possession) MUST be calendared prior to the serving and filing of moving papers. Call calendaring clerk in the mornings between 9:00 a.m and 12:00 noon, Monday through Friday.

Be prepared with date, case number, and abbreviated case name of the hearing you wish to calendar.

All motions will be set at 9:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. (All courtesy copies shall be lodged in the appropriate department no later than six (6) court days before the hearing date OR on the same day the papers are filed.)

Ex parte motions (e.g., applications for orders shortening time) are heard at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Bring endorsed-filed copy of application and separate "proposed" order to Discovery Dept. Office, Room 633 for hearing in appropriate department at 11:30 a.m. There is no need to reserve the date for hearing (of these motions) in advance.

Tentative rulings are available in discovery pursuant to local rule 8.3 effective July 1, 1998. You now have the option of submiting by telephone. Parties are not required to submit by telephone. You must be an attorney or a party appearing in pro per to submit. A party who fails to appear at the hearing is deemed to submit to the tentative ruling. However, no party may submit to a tentative ruling that specifies that a hearing is required.
Parties who intend to appear at the hearing must give notice to opposing counsel promptly by telephone, but no later than 4:00 p.m. the day before the hearing. A party may not argue at the hearing if opposing counsel is not so notified and opposing counsel does not appear.

Orders to appear for examination are set Monday through Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the discovery department. Fill in the date you are requesting for the examination and submit your application along with the proper fee to the clerk's office (Room 103) for issuance. There is no need to reserve the date for the hearing in advance. (Enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope for return of same to you for processing.)
