ACCESS (Assisting Court Customers with Education and Self Help Services)

Legal Help at the San Francisco Superior Court

ACCESS helps people who need legal information but do not have lawyers.  We can help you with:

We cannot help with criminal cases, immigration, bankruptcy, and civil appeals.

The ACCESS Center can:

  • Give you information in many languages and help you understand your legal options
  • Help you represent yourself
  • Show you how to fill out the legal forms, follow court procedures, find resources or a lawyer
  • Show you how to research the law

You don't have to pay anything to use the center. But, you have to pay for copies and court filing fees. If you are low income, you may be able to file for free.

If you have an attorney, ACCESS cannot help you.

The ACCESS Center is located at:

Regular business hours at the center are:
Morning Sessions: Monday - Friday (8:30 a.m. to 12 Noon)
Afternoon Session: Monday - Thursday (1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

You must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the close of each session. Customers are served on a first come, first served drop-in basis.


Can I email ACCESS? (SERVICE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED)

Yes. For help with small claims, civil harassment restraining orders, name and/or gender changes, guardianships or evictions, you can email us. If we can't answer your question, we will send you to someone who can. You may print the "Email Flyer" for more details on our services. What if I need help with other legal issues?

If you need help with Family Law, you can call the Family Law Self-Help Center at 415-551-3991.

If you need help with other issues, call the Bar Association of San Francisco Lawyer Referral Service at 415-989-1616.

There are also many non-profit agencies in San Francisco that may be able to help you with your case. For a list of many of those agencies.
